Crista Uwase

It was mid 2013, when Crista became interested in making paper dresses that she begun using magazines to create art. She has fallen in love with the delicateness of paper and has incorporated it in creating collages ever since. Most of the works are painted with bits of torn paper pasted onto a canvas. The work is composed of many layers of torn paper which are formed from different colours, textures and weight of paper from different magazines, labels or printed material. The work is also created using fibre/thread done by hand and sometimes with a sewing machine. Fibre and paper are regarded as simple and the kind of media women are likely to choose and often works created with these materials being categorized as crafts, Crista wants to continue using them to create “ART.”
