Mukankuranga Jeanne, a grandmother at only 44 years; lost her right arm in a car accident that happened on her way to work in 2007. She comes from a family of 12 children, 7 of whom she lost during the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi. While she did not get a chance to go to school because her father did not believe in educating girls, she now loves the classes at the “Talking through Art” organization and is happy for the opportunity to learn English. After discovering that she has a talent in art, Jeanne has become the leading artist at “Talking through Art” since 2015. Jeanne loves weaving baskets and is one of the fastest weavers despite having only one arm. Her newly-gained skills are bringing her an extra income to provide for her children and grandchildren.
